Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapists work with people of all ages who have a permanent or temporary impairment in their physical or mental functioning.  The goal of occupational therapy is to help patients perform daily tasks in their living and working environments and to assist them to develop skills to live independent, satisfying and productive lives.  Occupational therapists use specialized exercises and treatment approaches to help a broad range of patients who suffer from impairments due to neurological diseases, pain, injuries to muscles, bones, joints, ligaments and tendons as well as disorders such as arthritis.  Occupational therapists also work with patients to improve problem solving, memory and safety as it pertains to everyday tasks and functioning in one’s own home. A prescription from a physician is required for occupational therapy treatment.

Saint Anthony Memorial offers comprehensive occupational therapy services to inpatients and outpatients.  Outpatients are treated at our two clinics:

Each clinic is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. by appointment only.  Our clinics boast state of the art therapeutic exercise equipment and treatment modalities.  Each clinic is equipped with a therapeutic pool offering patients a wide range of treatment approaches.  Our inpatient and outpatient staff of occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants is highly trained in all aspects of care and our therapists work diligently to update their skills on a regular basis.

Our occupational therapists treat a wide variety of conditions including:

  • Stroke
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Spinal cord injury
  • Brain injury
  • Neurologic conditions
  • Tendon or ligament injuries
  • Muscle tears or strains
  • Disability from brain or spinal cord tumors
  • Orthopedic surgery of the hand or arm
  • Cognitive disorders
  • Difficulty performing daily activities
  • Difficulty performing self-care activities
  • Multiple trauma
  • Disability following fractures of the arms
