Michiana Cancer Treatment Center
|
Michiana Cancer Treatment Center delivers radiation therapy precisely and compassionately in the community setting. Radiation therapy is used as a primary treatment for cancer or in conjunction with chemotherapy or after surgery.
At the center, an experienced treatment team is directed by a board-certified radiation oncologist, registered radiation therapists and a radiation physicist.
Our staff uses an array of modern technologies to effectively treat cancer and minimize side effects. We are able to give the same high quality cancer care as the patient would receive at larger centers.
- IMRT – Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy. This is a new technology that is the first of its kind in LaPorte County. It has been called the “smart beam” because it customizes the radiation dose to the tumor and spares normal tissue. It is the most technologically advanced and precise method of external beam radiation. By “modulating” or varying the dose it is possible to achieve 3-Dimenisional detail that matches the shape, size, and location of the tumor, thus causing less damage to normal tissue that surrounds the tumor. This reduces side effects related to radiation therapy.
- 3-Dimensional (3D) computerized modeling for treatment planning.
- Internal radiation therapy (brachytherapy)
- Prostate Seed Implants (brachytherapy)
The Michiana Cancer Treatment Center is an independent radiation oncology service located with the St. Anthony Memorial facility.
